Growing up on a sheep farm, working with my hands seemed to come naturally. Whether building timber framed outbuildings at Upper Canada Village or taking them down in the Ottawa valley for recycled timber, I found myself seeing the beauty in what could be.
In 1996, I began Art Fundamentals program at Sheridan College and continued on the next year in their School of Crafts and Design, majoring in Furniture. This was short lived. As my interest in clay grew stronger, I soon changed majors and haven't looked back.
Clay has always given me a sense of possibility and, as graduation came in 2000, so came new possibilities. I was fortunate to find an apprenticeship with Scott Barnim, with whom I worked for almost six years. In 2003 I began teaching ceramics at Dundas Valley School of Art.
In 2003 I opened Aird Pottery and slowly emerged as the newest studio in Dundas. By 2006 it was a full time functioning studio. Now, selling in galleries and shops across Ontario.
In September 2006 I was able to find a very exciting new position. I am now the Ceramics Technician for the Stoney Creek Campus of Mohawk College.
As 2007 the Year of Craft began I assumed the role of President for the Potters Guild of Hamilton and Region. This year is looking like a very busy year for Aird Pottery with many events and shows already in the planning stage.
